Lending BayPay Event

The Future of Lending

Lending Event Introduction

One of the things we do at The BayPay Forum is follow advances in technology or regulation that we think will generate business opportunities.

One such trend is the risk of disintermediation of banks. Innovation has never been more active: from the impact of Durbin on the prepaid and debit card market, to the underbanked, to the cross-border payments or the crypto-currency phenomenon (stay tuned for our June 10 event on "Crypto-currencies Beyond Bitcoin” in San Francisco).

For this event on April 16, we will take a closer look at the lending market and crowd or peer-to-peer lending in particular.

The IPO of Lending Club has shown investors that peer-to-peer lending could be a good alternative to investing in Wall Street. Despite controversy, a market capitalization of over $7B demonstrates that some do see potential in these alternative investment strategies which have already created a wave of new players attempting to disrupt this very competitive market.

While Lending Club provided an impressive $4.4B of loans last year, it represents only 0.1% of this market so there is still plenty of growth potential for them and other companies in the same space. With this event, we want to put some light on the other players in this market to understand the investment and business opportunity they represent and how they compete against the market leaders. A great lesson for any entrepreneur when a new market is addressed and disrupted by new entrants.

Join us on April 16 at Orrick in Menlo Park to learn more about this topic and to network with other executives interested in this area.
