Sam Kille, Bob Woodruff Foundation

We were excited when PayPal asked us to write a little something about what we do at the Bob Woodruff Foundation. And what a perfect time to talk about what our organization does as we just celebrated Memorial Day and remembered the sacrifices of those who have served in the military.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation is at its most basic a charity that helps to ensure post 9/11 injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home from war. Our foundation reduces the work for donors by directing them to the right organizations that help wounded veterans. The reality is one in 50 service members have returned from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq injured, and one in five has hidden wounds. Our foundation finds, funds and shapes innovative programs in communities where veterans, their families and caregivers live and work. To date the Bob Woodruff Foundation has invested $25M to shape programs that make a difference in the lives of veterans. We primarily focus on education, employment, rehab, recovery and quality of life for veterans and their families.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation was founded under a unique circumstance – Bob Woodruff is a well-known journalist, and while reporting for ABC News in Iraq, his vehicle was tragically struck by a roadside bomb and he was severely injured. Bob was treated at military hospitals, and because of his experience, he wanted to help ensure injured veterans had what they need in order to continue life after the military.
Since we rely so heavily on donations, we use PayPal because it is a well-respected and credible payments option, and it provides us with a seamless way to collect these donations. PayPal solutions are easy to use and manage, and also offer low fees, which really help cost-conscious nonprofit organizations such as ours. The customer service is also great and easily accessible if we ever have any questions or concerns!
Anyone can get involved and donate by visiting our website. We also hold an annual fundraiser called Stand Up for Heroes in New York City’s Madison Square Garden – it includes comedy and music with big names like Bruce Springsteen.
