Helping the Victims of the Nepal Earthquake

Clam Lorenz, GM Social Innovation, North America

A powerful and deadly earthquake struck an area of central Nepal between the capital, Kathmandu and the city of Pokhara earlier today. The toll of the quake is devastating and wide reaching. Early reports indicate more than 1,400 people have died in Nepal and people have also been injured and killed in India, Bangladesh, Tibet and on Mount Everest, where devastating avalanches were triggered.

As with any natural disaster of this magnitude, the need for aid will be vast and we all have the ability to help. PayPal is mobilizing our resources to help those affected in two ways:

First, we have launched a disaster relief campaign featuring organizations like the American Red Cross, CARE USA and World Vision, who are working directly and through local partners to provide relief to emergency shelter, medical supplies and food.

PayPal is covering all costs associated with these donations, ensuring that 100% of your contribution will be sent to your chosen organization(s) via the PayPal Giving Fund. Please consider donating to one or more of the organizations featured.

In addition, PayPal will give back transaction fees on donations from April 25 to May 26, 2015 to any qualifying U.S. 501(c)(3) organization involved in the relief and recovery. This is another way we can help ensuring that 100% of Nepal Earthquake donations reach the charities raising funds for relief and recovery.

To request a fee credit for Nepal donations to your charity, please send an e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by May 26, including the e-mail address for your PayPal account.

We’re extremely grateful to all those who are able to help, and our thoughts are with all of the families affected by this tragedy.
