Thunes has announced that its proprietary Direct Global Network now leverages Swift to provide banks with access to billions of mobile wallets. The newly introduced network capability allows financial institutions connected to Swift to become part of Thunes’ Direct Global Network, enabling direct cross-border payments to 120 mobile wallet providers without requiring additional technical integration.

In essence, this new functionality allows banks to send instant payments to mobile wallets in over 130 countries and supports transactions in 80 different currencies. Expanded payment capabilities for financial institutions By connecting to Thunes' Direct Global Network through their Swift infrastructure, financial institutions can now process cross-border payments to mobile wallets with minimal technical adjustments and operational changes. In addition to payment capabilities, institutions will benefit from Thunes’ SmartX Treasury System and Fortress Compliance Platform, which offer improved control, visibility, protection, and cost-efficiency in real-time payment processing.

This integration between Swift's financial messaging services and Thunes' network is designed to enhance cross-border payment capabilities, particularly in regions where mobile wallet usage is widespread. The initiative is also positioned to improve financial inclusion by targeting under-banked populations, providing them with access to global financial services. Thunes officials highlighted that opening the Direct Global Network to banks aligns with the company’s goal of making the global economy more accessible.

They emphasised that this initiative helps connect bank and mobile wallet systems, enabling smoother payments in previously underserved regions. Company representatives also noted that the new solution unlocks opportunities for the banking sector by facilitating real-time cross-border payments to billions of mobile wallets, improving financial inclusion and delivering faster, more transparent transactions. In other developments from Thunes, the company recently expanded its partnership with SCB, Thailand's digital bank, to improve SCB's international remittance services through the SCB EASY app.

This partnership was designed to provide immediate, transparent, and reliable transfers to 26 countries in 17 currencies. For more information about Thunes, please check out their detailed profile in our dedicated, industry-specific Company Database. Source: Link .
