The only C-level business meeting for the Asia-Pacific and international carrier communities On 28 & 29 November 2012, 428 executive attendees from 206 individual companies gathered in Bangkok for the largest and most successful Capacity Asia to date. The move to Thailand this year increased representation from Indochinese companies providing a more diverse audience, new conference content and more carriers from across Asia to build future business partnerships with. New and thought-provoking content at Capacity Asia 2012 The conference started off with two executive spotlight sessions featuring interviews withSrinivasa Addepalli, Chief Strategy Officer from TATA COMMUNICATIONS and Kajornsak Singhaseni, Senior Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy from CAT TELECOM. During the presentation, many current topics were discussed including what the Asian carrier of the future will look like. Mr. Addepalli discussed the importance of capital management, staying ahead of regulatory changes, and the evolving role of carriers in the value chain. His advice to all Asian carriers was to “think global” as this is one of the key differentiators for success. Another agenda highlight during the 2 days was the executive panel focussing on how to increase regional connectivity between Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. There was an international perspective presented by ORANGE, PCCW GLOBAL and TELECOM ITALIA SPARKLE and a regional perspective from BB CONNECT, RELIANCE GLOBALCOM and TELIN. During the panel discussion, Owen Best, President, Asia at RELIANCE GLOBALCOM was quizzed on factors driving demand on new and upgraded subsea cable systems. He believes “mobile data has been the game changer in terms of driving capacity demand”. Another key talking point was the increased potential of market growth in Myanmar. Shane Thu Aung, Senior Vice President and Co-Founder of GLOBALNET, presented valuable statistics during his presentation showing that with a population of over 60 million and a 1% penetration rate, the opportunities are endless.Brianna Boureau from TELEGEOGRAPHY also gave an interesting insight into what we can expect from Myanmar over the next four years and where the most potential growth margins are. From all aspects, Myanmar is becoming a country to look out for and will produce many economic opportunities.
Networking opportunities with a Thai twist at Capacity Asia 2012 TRUE INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY hosted the Loy Krathong festival party which took place on the evening of day 1. This traditional Thai festival was celebrated with local dancers, Thai style canapés, cocktails and the traditional release of Loy Krathong floats to welcome good fortune for the future.
