Findings from a specially commissioned Efma report will be presented:
• Mobile banking: state of the industry, and how to use it to increase sales, by McKinsey & CompanyMobile phones and tablets: another channel or a banking revolution?
Overview Mobile is a burning topic in the financial sector and also in other industries. In a recent Efma survey, most respondents believed that mobile banking will bring fundamental changes to the retail banking industry over the next three to five years.
Most banks have been providing simple mobile banking applications - mainly reporting and transactions - for many years. However, they are now confronted with fresh challenges relating to the development of a new generation of apps for mobiles and tablets along with ever-increasing customer expectations.
Key issues This new Efma conference will include speakers from many countries and even different continents and other sectors. It will explore some important questions and issues facing financial institutions:
Facing the future • Channel or change? Is mobile banking just another channel or does it really herald a revolution in retail banking? • Where is technology heading? How will smartphones and tablets be used in financial services in the future? What’s next for apps: marketing, loyalty, gamification, Personal Finance Management, geo-location applications…? How can banks leverage the opportunities of mobile technologies? • How can banks ‘ride the wave’? What investment should they make in mobile ‘channels’? Does mobile pose a real opportunity for new entrants and therefore a threat for banks?
Making preparations • Enhancing the customer experience: how can banks create greater intimacy and a better customer experience through mobile channels? • Developing strategies: what partnerships can banks forge? Who are the key stakeholders? What can be learnt from other sectors? • Exploring mobile: how can banks use innovative approaches to profit from the use of mobile devices? What is the relationship between social media and mobile banking?
Efma mobile banking apps awardIn 2012, Efma will reward the year’s best mobile banking app. The best mobile banking app award is intended to reward a bank app offering financial transactional functionalities to the bank’s customers. Financial institutions which would like to be considered for the mobile banking app award should register, before 10 November 2012. Four nominees will present their app during the Mobile banking event on 5-6 December 2012. The conference’s participants will then vote for the winner of the award.
