Now that we are almost all "mobilized" and always on, many companies are focusing on bringing traffic to merchants. Customer engagement becomes the key word and the companies that will find the secret of making it work consistently and who can scale will be highly rewarded.
For this first BayPay event of the year 2013, we have invited executives from several emerging companies who are focusing their business on providing to small merchants affordable solutions while building at the same time a consumer community they can bring to merchants to negotiate better deals for their consumer crowd.
For this event, we will be hosted by our sponsor Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California.
We will start by presentations of these companies to get a grasp of their brilliant vision, their successes and possible challenges and how they solve the infamous chicken & egg problem that more often than not slows down the growth of most payment and commerce startups. We will end the session with a Q&A session with the audience.

Mani Kulasooriya, CEO of Leapset
Mani Kulasooriya, CEO of Leapset, has spent the last 15 years in the cross sections of the Financial Services and Consumer Internet. He is currently the CEO of Leapset, a local commerce platform, targeting offline small merchants. Prior to Leapset Mani was a founding partner at Monvia, an incubator focused on media and payments startups. Formerly he was also head of business development at Yahoo Finance and head of product at Yahoo PayDirect. He started his career at Citibank's e-Citi group, an internal incubator focused on financial services startups. Mani holds an MBA from Vanderbilt Univeristy and a BSc Engineering from Tulane University
Ken Fenyo, CEO of YOU Technology, Inc.
Ken Fenyo is CEO of YOU Technology, Inc., a leading digital coupon solutions provider. He has extensive experience in digital marketing, loyalty marketing, personalized marketing and customer insights and analytics with leading companies in the retail, consumer goods, hospitality, and technology industries. YOU Technology's clients include 5 of the largest U.S. retailers and 9 out of the top 10 CPG advertisers. As CEO, Fenyo has more than doubled the size of the business, which today delivers over 20 million digital coupons to nearly 10 million shoppers at nearly 10,000 retail stores each month. Fenyo has over 20 years of experience as an executive in the retail, hospitality, and technology industries. Ken has degrees from Harvard Law School and Stanford University.
Jason Gardner, CEO of Marqeta
Jason founded Marqeta after serving as president and member of the board of directors at PropertyBridge – a leading provider of rent payment platforms for property managers – which he co-founded in 2004. MoneyGram International (MGI) acquired PropertyBridge in October 2007. After the acquisition, Jason served as vice-president and a member of the MGI executive management team. At PropertyBridge and MoneyGram, Jason led the company's long-term market strategies for multi-family real estate electronic payment processing and oversaw product research, product development, sales and marketing. Jason is a regular speaker at electronic payment industry events. Jason earned his BA from Arizona State University.
John Hennessy, SVP of Mobeam
John Hennessy is SVP of MoBeam, Inc. whose technology lets cell phone users transmit: coupons, gift cards, loyalty cards, payments, tickets and other barcoded data from their cell phones to existing laser POS scanners without requiring changes to the scanner technology. MoBeam is working with global CPG marketers, handset makers, carriers, gift card providers, payment service providers and others who benefit from the ability to put convenient savings and payment capabilities into handsets. John’s background includes helping Consumer Packaged Goods companies use multi-dimensional databases and decision support tools to navigate retail scanner data before it was called big data. John has an AB from Loyola University of Chicago.
