Moving the BYOD Agenda ForwardWe know that BYOD is here to stay and is happening everywhere, with employees in all kinds of roles, in every vertical and in every country using their personal devices to access corporate data. If it isn’t already a priority issue for your business, it should be. For CIOs, managing such ‘Bring Your Own’ behavior is a huge challenge that is now being exacerbated by the trend spreading beyond mobile devices: in their attempts to find easier and more convenient ways of doing their jobs, employees are also finding ways to bring their own PCs to work. And usage of employees own devices is also driving them to find new document collaboration applications to be able to flexibly move work between their devices, and amongst groups. The new challenge for IT is to strike the balance between meeting the needs and requirements of the consumerized employee to avoiding driving behaviours out the line of sight and control of IT, while at the same time keeping corporate data secure. This dual requirement means that demand is moving further than mobile device management (MDM) strategies, towards policies that take advantage of the specific capabilities of smartphones and tablets around app usage. Those vendors in the enterprise mobility management (EMM) space are adjusting and extending their offerings accordingly, providing ways to deliver corporate app stores and mobile application management (MAM) capabilities. Some are also extending the definition of ‘mobile device’ to managing laptops, and finding ways to manage the whole mobile computing estate from a single place. This event from Ovum will provide the blueprint for CIOs to take away and implement a robust mobility strategy that addresses the challenges of consumerization. It will present our latest research into both the supply side and demand side of the BYOX effect, and give advice on best practice vendor selection, governance and implementation strategies. By showcasing real life case studies, we will also give delegates the chance to learn from the experiences of their peers who have been implementing policies within their own organizations. |
