Capacity Conferences would like to thank all of the 423 attendees, 22 sponsors and 21 exhibitors for making the 6^th annual conference the most successful Capacity Africa so far.  For the first time Capacity Africa took place in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and this change of location opened up the event to attract many new African carriers and service providers.

The Honourable Professor Makame Mbarawa, Minister, MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, TANZANIA opened the event by announcing the new Telecommunication Monitoring System (TMS) which will start operating in December 2012.

This address was followed by a keynote discussion featuring MAIN ONE CABLE COMPANY, NEOTEL, SAFARICOM and SIX TELECOMS who discussed the successful operator strategies in the more advanced markets in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Rashid Shamte, Founder & Head of Group Strategy, SIX TELECOMS stated that Capacity Africa 2012 will allow many companies to be aware of the National Broadband Fibre Optic Cable which, “will make Tanzania a leading gateway in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC)”.

The conversation moved to discuss the need for competition and entrepreneurship and Funke Opeke, CEO, MAIN ONE CABLE COMPANY noted that “the large, global operators will not drive the development that the African people need – entrepreneurial operators entering the market alongside government regulatory reforms and support will drive development to connect the hard to reach markets."
