Uniting Canadian, Mexican and US carriers with the international wholesale community

Capacity Conferences would like to thank all of the 365 attendees, 15 sponsors and 20 exhibitors for making the 12th annual conference the biggest and most successful Capacity North America so far.

The event started with a bang with two keynote addresses delivered by Jim Crowe, CEO of LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS and Mike Millegan, President of VERIZON GLOBAL WHOLESALE followed by two back-to-back keynote panel sessions featuring BELL CANADA, COGENT COMMUNICATIONS, ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS, SIDERA NETWORKS, WINDSTREAM COMMUNICATIONS and ZAYO GROUP.

Jim Crowe delivered an exciting and interactive presentation focused on 6 future market trends, asking members of the audience to raise their hands if they agreed with each one. His first point that “individual users at the home are going to use more and more mobile devices so the trend is for more individuals connected at home and in the office” formed the basis for a fluent evaluation of the future of the market.

Mr Millegan dissected wholesale carrier trends for the future and his opening gambit “wholesale is not free and it’s not cheap” clearly resonated with the audience. Mr Millegan then continued to stress the importance of not allowing networks to become commoditised and the role that new technologies and investment will play in the carrier’s ability to “react to the demand for mobility, reliability and scalability”.

The discussions didn’t stop there and the next hour featured a fantastic conversation on North American consolidation with Mike Sicoli, CEO of SIDERA NETWORKS, Bill Bellando, SVP – Network Services at WINDSTREAM COMMUNICATIONS and Glenn Russo, EVP – Corporate Strategy & Development from the ZAYO GROUP.

The rest of the conference consisted of an absorbing series of discussions centred on the wholesale business model looking at connectivity, cloud, content and data centres. These seminal debates alongside a busy exhibition floor and packed meeting calendars all helped make Capacity North America 2012a truly great event.
