Mobilizing Talent to "Mobil-lize" Financial Inclusion- Startup Demos

This event is part of our on-going strategy of helping FinTech start-up companies showcase their products and connect to each and every part of the payment eco-system. During that event, we will present the five Western FinCapDev Mobile App Competition finalist teams as well as other startups in the same space. Each company will have an opportunity to demo their apps.

Administered by the Doorways to Dreams Fund (D2D Fund) and the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI), FinCapDev is a mobile app competition that challenges entrepreneurs across the nation to create apps that help millions of underserved Americans make smarter financial decisions and achieve better access to financial services.

In 2014, the competition is supporting 10 finalist teams who submitted their apps to app stores on September 15 and will compete for a $100K cash prize purse at the FinCapDev Demo Day on October 30.

In a first-ever collaboration, the BayPay Forum and NYPAY are proud to be hosting sister events, one in the Bay Area and the other in New York, to give members a first look at these new apps before they compete at Demo Day.

On October 2, in Orrick's Menlo Park offices, the BayPay Forum will host the FinCapDev team and four of the five Western FinCapDev finalist teams (based in the BayArea) in an event that will allow them to demo their apps. In addition to seeing the demos, attendees will have a chance to interact with the innovators and engage with them as potential partners, investors, employers, mentors, or advisors.

The five FinCapDev finalists on the West Coast are:

    •    2055 (San Francisco): RichFund is a mobile savings app that will get people excited about their future and motivated to make it a reality. The app will help users open retirement savings accounts and understand how much they need to save today to reach their future goals. (2055 wil not be participating)

    •    Alcanza (Mountain View): Based on a bingo-like Mexican game, Alcanza targets the Latino population and works to lay the foundation of future financial security by reducing the cognitive demands of daily financial decision making and breaking down future goals into a set of achievable tasks.

    •    BillGuru (San Francisco) : BillGuru will help families build their financial capability by learning which bills to prioritize when they don’t have enough to pay them all.

    •    Planwise (San Francisco) : Planwise seeks to enable all users to easily understand both their current finances and the future impact of any financial decisions they make through a simple, visual interface.

    •    Trackr (Oakland): Trackr is a mobile app for parents and kids that will reward kids for completing tasks while instilling sound financial values and mindful spending early in life.

 Other start-ups include:

•    DoubleBeam

•    Sekur.me
