Since Square started disrupting the acquiring market, innovation in this segment of the payment and commerce market has accelerated. We saw many copycats first with magstripe reader dongles popping up everywhere from PayPal, Intuit, Groupon and many others.
A few things were experimented around the world to change the way we pay at the Point of Sales, but without major success so far. We saw the rise and crash of the contactless cards at the POS due to a lack of transactions and understanding of the value by cardholders. Apple Pay is obviously giving new hopes with a great user experience. SoftCard is reducing its workforce showing one more time that our industry is not an easy one.
Fraud has also been on the rise with major data breaches to steal card numbers but the millions. The last one at Target, at the end of last year, was so important that it revived EMV in the US, and with a deadline of October 2015, merchants, processors, ISOs and card issuers don’t have much time to meet the date.
In parallel, retailers understand the benefits of taking better care of their customers so a new wave of innovation is brewing, changing the consumer experience and completely disrupting this market that has been dormant for so long.
This event is the first of a series of events we will organize to put some light on where we are and what is coming as incumbents and innovators alike are colliding to take the new spot creating major business opportunities.
Our first event on March 9 will focus on the vendor side. We have invited companies like Verifone, Poynt, Ingenico, Clover, Powa or Square to give them the opportunity to share their vision of the future and what is coming.
Spaces are limited (140 people) to allow for better networking.
