Open Data in Finance

Open Data in Finance

Using APIs to embark on new partnerships, improve products and services for customers, and create new revenue streams

Conference & Workshops
14th-15th June, 2016 – London

Open Data in Finance conference is the only end-user driven event that focuses exclusively on open data and data sharing in the finance sector.

It will bring together influential representatives at the nexus of the open data initiative, who can give real insights into the thoughts and plans of government and key industry players, and share how they are shaping and responding to this market change.

Explore the following key themes:

  • The security, standards and governance that will underpin an open API framework

  • PSD2 and the UK Open Banking Framework – latest developments and industry responses

  • Using open APIs to provide better products and services for customers

  • How to monetise your open data platform

  • How banks and fintech companies can engage in mutually beneficial partnerships

Why attend now?

  • In the 2014 Budget the UK government expressed their intention to match SMEs rejected for bank finance with alternative business finance providers. This subsequently passed into law as part of the Small Business Enterprise Act. In the 2016 Budget, the government announced its intention to designate a number of online platforms to play this vital role of connecting rejected SMEs with alternative finance providers.

  • In February 2016 the UK Treasury published a new framework for supporting the use of open APIs in the banking sector. The government promises to legislate to deliver better access to bank data through APIs if the industry does not embrace the changes. According to the report, access to customer data via an open banking API could be operational within a year, and a fully functioning open data market in the UK banking sector would be a reality by mid-2019.

  • PSD2 will also push the adoption of open data in banking across Europe. It will give payment initiation service providers and account information service providers greater access to payment accounts. Europe is watching the UK, and whatever happens in the UK this year is very likely to influence how PSD2 plays out.
