Another of Canada’s Major Banks Launches NFC Payments

Canada’s TD Canada Trust today announced the launch of its NFC-enabled TD Mobile Payment service, a Visa-branded credit application, which will be available on NFC SIM cards issued by all three of Canada’s major mobile operators.

The bank has added NFC payments to its existing TD mobile-banking app, and the service will run on seven Android phone models, including the Galaxy S5, along with an older BlackBerry model, to start with, said the bank. Users must also have an NFC SIM from any of three operators: Rogers Communications, Bell Mobility or Telus Mobility.

Users will be able to tap to pay on hundreds of thousands of point-of-sale terminals equipped to handle Visa payWave in Canada, along with payWave terminals elsewhere.
