AUSTIN, Texas – U.S. mobile carrier AT&T plans to enable nonpayment NFC services, which could run alongside payment applications on its NFC SIMs, but would not be part of the Isis Wallet.
In a long-planned program, the No. 2 U.S. telco will soon introduce its own TSM platform for service providers, targeting such applications as transit ticketing and physical-access control at university, corporate and government campuses and at hotels.
AT&T’s plans call for running other services on the secure elements of its SIMs, as well, though not involving NFC or contactless applications. These would seek to enable users to access and sign health and tax documents on their phones and to log on to enterprise networks.
And the telco, speaking this week at the NFC Solutions Summit in Austin, Texas, also said it also plans to launch a non-NFC mobile marketing platform that would include offers, coupons, ID services and gifting or stored value accounts.
Like the nonpayment NFC services, this platform also would be separate from Isis, the joint venture AT&T formed with Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA that concerns itself with NFC retail payments and mobile-commerce applications.
In an unrelated move, Isis also disclosed this week it would offer a new service provider-TSM aggregation service for banks.
