German customers of mobile network operator Base, part of the E-Plus group, can now make payments, store membership cards and redeem coupons with their NFC phone.

Giesecke & Devrient is providing Base with the SkySIM CX SIM cards used to offer customers the ability to store a digital Maestro card on their NFC phone. G&D is also acting as E-Plus’ TSM while Wirecard is providing the carrier with the prepaid Base Wallet card.

“The payment card can be used immediately after registration via the Base Wallet app, which also provides a real-time overview of all completed transactions and available credit,” Wirecard says.

“The top-up function is also conveniently integrated in the wallet. Wirecard offers another MasterCard digital credit card for payment in online shops. The prepaid card is also available as a plastic card. This enables the use of POS terminals which are not yet equipped with NFC technology.”

“With our Base Wallet, we are offering our customers a comprehensive range of services from a single source,” Michael Kaduk, director of wholesale and partner business at E-Plus explains. “The digital payment card is the core of the mobile wallet, allowing customers to immediately pay via their mobile phone quickly and securely.”

“Right from the start, our mobile telephony customers can both pay securely using the mobile wallet and redeem digital coupons,” adds Martin Deventer, director of core network and services at E-Plus. “Customers can also save their membership cards, such as their ADAC (the German Automobile Club) card, onto their smartphone.”
