A anti-theft service for bicycles has been introduced by Italian firm Bike Identificator.
Both an NFC tag and an RFID tag, fixed to the chassis of the bike, are used in combination with an online registration system to identify a cycle's owner and track lost or stolen bikes. An NFC smartphone can be used to read and verify ownership information from the NFC tag stuck to the cycle.
Additonally, the system can record the location the next time a cycle's tag is read, offering owners a chance to find and recover a missing bike.
A video shows how the service works:
The solution is now available in Italy for €25 (US$32).
