China UnionPay Signs up 30 Banks to Use TSM Platform; Works with NFC SIMs and Embedded Chips

China UnionPay has announced that 15 banks now have access to its TSM platform, while a total of 30 banks have signed a cooperation agreement to eventually use the platform.

The list includes many of China’s largest banks, such as Bank of China, China Construction Bank, CITIC Bank, China Everbright Bank, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, China Minsheng Bank and Beijing Bank.

UnionPay, China’s state-owned payments network, built its service provider TSM in-house, with help from France-based Gemalto, to provision its Quick Pass contactless payments application on secure elements in NFC phones. Quick Pass complies with China’s domestic EMV standard. UnionPay has also helped roll out what it says are more than 1.4 million contactless POS terminals in China.
