NFC Times Exclusive: A long-anticipated but delayed launch of an NFC case for the iPhone 5 is finally ready to go forward, following remaining approvals needed from Visa and Apple, NFC Times has learned.
The case, which uses technology from U.S.-based DeviceFidelity and is being manufactured by one of its licensees, smartphone case and accessories maker Incipio, has been requested by the two largest mobile operators that make up the Isis joint venture, as well as major U.S. bank and a prepaid issuer in the UK, among others.
The new product is considered crucial to DeviceFidelity, a seven-year-old company for which real rollouts of its technology and a steady stream of revenue has so far proved elusive. A successful launch of the iPhone case could validate DeviceFidelity's new licensing model, help it raise more capital and make it more attractive for any potential sale.
