OFF THE CUFF: NFC tags in shirts can help earn bonuses by referring new customers

Upmarket Swedish dress shirt maker Four Levent is using NFC tags built into its garments to reward clients for referring new customers to its website.

“NFC tags are cheap, durable and easy to add to our shirts, so we did just that, one in each cuff,” the company says.

“When we deliver the shirts, the NFC tags are pre-loaded with our bonus system. Whenever someone taps their smartphone on your NFC tag and then buys from the shop, you get a $45 discount. It’s our way of thanking you for promoting our shirts. Also, it’s kind of cool.”

Four Levent is using NFC tags based on NXP’s NTAG203 chips.
