France-based Gemalto today reported higher revenue in the third quarter for its mobile-payments platforms as well as increased shipments of NFC SIMs and dual-interface banking cards.
The vendor, which released only its revenue figures for the quarter today, did not break out the sales specifically for the mobile-payments and TSM services or for the NFC SIM and contactless EMV card business.
But the third quarter sales figures are expected to include revenue for Gemalto’s contracts with both the Isis joint venture and MCX merchant group in the U.S., as well as such Asian projects as Octopus mobile transit ticketing in Hong Kong and contactless EMV cards shipped to China.
For Isis, Gemalto is earning fees for providing TSM services to the mobile carrier joint venture and to such service providers as JPMorgan Chase Bank, which will be part of the Isis Mobile Wallet. The vendor is also selling high-end NFC SIMs to Isis member telcos Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile USA.
“If Isis is launching before the end of the year, you can assume they’ve already done most of their preparation and so products are already in the field somewhere, so for us, they are already ‘revenued’ in Q3 or will be ‘revenued’ in Q4,” Piou said today in a conference call with financial analysts. “Now, 2014 will depend, of course, on how much pickup there will be. Honestly, I have a view of their marketing campaign. I don’t want to discuss that. it would be inappropriate.”
