Google is ending support for NFC payments in all devices except those supporting Android 4.4 or above, as part of its push of host-card emulation into the market.
Google said that it would end support of the tap-and-pay feature on April 14. All of these older phones supporting NFC payments in the Google Wallet have used embedded secure elements.
After April 14, Google said the NFC payments feature would only be available for its wallet on NFC-enabled devices running Android 4.4 or above, and the search giant said that these devices would work with any U.S. mobile carrier’s network.
