Hewlett Packard (HP) has introduced a service for enterprise customers that enables users to authenticate themselves with a tap of their NFC phone or tablet when they wish to print a document, enabling customers to "experience a simplified login process without sacrificing device or data security, or requiring a proximity card reader system."
The NFC features in the new version of HP's Access Control solution are compatible with HP Enterprise Laserjet and MFP series printers equipped with HP Web Jetadmin and the recently introduced HP JetDirect 2800w NFC accessory. It also works with two new printer series, the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise MFP M680 and the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M651. These printers also support NFC touch-to-print capability and wireless direct mobile printing options.
"As mobile device usage in the office continues to grow, many businesses are concerned with security," says Pradeep Jotwani, senior vice president of LaserJet and enterprise solutions at HP. "By simplifying authentication for users, IT managers can better secure printer and MFP fleets without the concern of burdening users with a complicated authentication process."
