Isis Provides Peek at New Wallet; Offers Simplified Interface for National Launch

NFC Times Exclusive: As it prepares to launch its national rollout, the Isis joint venture seeks to simplify the user interface for consumers to conduct payments and redeem offers and rewards with the second version of its mobile wallet.

Isis, which gave a peek at the Isis Mobile Wallet 2.0 last week, is expected to launch its rollout in a few weeks, probably next month.

NFC SIMs have been going out to thousands of shops nationwide for Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile USA. At least one of the Isis telcos, probably Verizon, will issue SIMs as a default feature for all new postpaid subscribers, sources told NFC Times.

imageIn addition, Isis plans to preload its wallet on the NFC-enabled phones the carriers sell and projects there will be 30 million of these wallet phones in the pockets of consumers by the end of next year. There are already 40 models in shops that could be used for Isis with the proper SIM, said Isis. The joint venture announced the rollout plans in July.

Isis has said it will announce more banking and national retail partners. At present, it has disclosed just two issuers onboard for the national launch, American Express and JPMorgan Chase Bank. National or multistate retailers announced as supporting the rollout so far are Jamba Juice and Coca-Cola North America. The latter operates vending machines throughout the country.

The joint venture faces the daunting task of recruiting national merchants to accept its wallet and SmartTap mobile-commerce service, while building consumer awareness for the new way to pay.
