Lloyds Bank customer transactions hit by Faster Payments outage

Jan. 18, 2019

Lloyds Bank said an outage today in the U.K.'s Faster Payments system left some customers unable to conduct business through the network, in a post on Twitter.

"We would like to assure customers that they will not be out of pocket as a result of this issue and we apologize for any inconvenience caused," the bank said.

The bank issued an update at about 1:30 p.m. EST, or six hours after the original announcement, saying Faster Payments were now being processed, but warned that certain payments might be delayed. The bank warned customers not to attempt to make second attempts at payments because they might be processed twice.

A spokesman for Faster Payments said the central system was operating normally, but said there were technical issues impacting telephone, internet, mobile and standing orders at Lloyds Banking Group, via email. The group includes Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland and Halifax.
