NFC Times Exclusive – MasterCard Worldwide and EMVCo are working on a “payment identifier” that could cover all tokens for a particular card account issued to consumers, according to the payment network.
MasterCard also said it plans to eventually introduce biometrics for cloud-based payments, as well as a shared PIN-based cardholder-verification method, or CVM, for mobile payments.
The payment identifier would address complaints from merchants about the tokenization system the payment networks are building with their standards organization, EMVCo. Merchants are concerned they won’t be able to track their customers with tokens on an end-to-end basis for purchases, loyalty and possible chargebacks–both for face-to-face purchases and e-commerce transactions.
