NFC Forum Launches ‘Tap Into NFC’ Developer Program, Though Apple’s Platform Remains Closed

As the NFC Forum launches a new program to attract more application developers to jump into the NFC ecosystem, the organization told NFC Times that it is encouraged by Apple’s adoption but considers it likely that the NFC developer community will focus on Android for the near future.

The NFC Forum Thursday announced its “Tap Into NFC” developer program, which seeks to encourage application developers to work on NFC applications. The program includes a Web site, TapIntoNFC.org, where developers can access the NFC Forum’s technical specifications, developer kits, and “showcased” products from other NFC application developers. As part of the program, the forum will also host events for application developers, such as the “Tap Into NFC” developer showcase event and “NFC In Action” conference, both in Tokyo next week.

Hunter told NFC Times that the NFC Forum had already been working with NFC application developers through existing venues, such as Github, Stack Overflow, and others, primarily in the U.S. and Europe. “We have found hundreds of developers actively engaged in NFC technology,” she said.
