NFC SIM Shipments Hit 30 Million in H1–Matching Full-Year 2012, as Isis Gears Up; 80 million Projected This Year

NFC Times Exclusive: SIM vendors shipped a little more than 31 million NFC SIM cards to mobile operators during the first half of 2013–equaling the number of NFC SIMs during all of 2012–and shipments are projected to hit 80 million for all of 2013, according to figures and forecasts obtained by NFC Times.

The first-half vendor shipment figures (see chart) and full-year projection reflect the ramp-up of orders by Verizon Wireless and other telcos in the Isis joint venture, along with continued strong shipments to operators in South Korea and Japan.

The forecast, from the GSMA mobile operator trade group, project that shipments will hit 80 million units for the full year of 2013, a figure also endorsed recently by Gemalto, the largest supplier of NFC SIMs.
