Large Spanish retail bank CaxiaBank has announced plans to launch NFC payments with the country’s three largest mobile operators, in what the bank bills as a first of its kind NFC project for Europe.
CaixaBank plans to offer Visa payWave contactless payment applications on SIM cards issued by Telefónica, Vodafone and Orange–telcos that make up 80% of Spain’s mobile market, noted the bank. The commercial launch will be one of the first real tests of how well consumers will take to NFC payments in the SIM-centric European NFC market.
