PayPal is preparing to launch a new version of its PayPal Here card reader that can handle transactions with contactless cards and NFC devices.
“Just like the current PayPal Here Chip and PIN reader, it works alongside the PayPal Here app and pairs with your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth,” says the company. “Businesses of all sizes will now be able to accept contactless payments, wherever they do business.”
“The NFC element will work in the same way as contactless payment works in-store,” PayPal explains. “You tap your card or mobile device on the screen of the reader until the LEDs show at the top of the card reader.”
The device will go on sale in the UK and Australia this summer, and in the US later this year.
