NFC Times Exclusive: Slovakia’s largest mobile operator, Slovak Telekom, plans to follow its parent, Germany-based Deutsche Telekom, in launching NFC payments using a prepaid application issued by Deutsche Telekom’s ClickandBuy online payments unit, NFC Times has learned.
Deutsche Telekom mentioned last week in announcing its own long-awaited mobile-payments service in Germany, that Slovakia Telekom would launch NFC later this month. The launch in Slovakia could happen this week. Deutsche Telekom owns a majority stake in Slovak Telekom.
A source told NFC Times that the Slovak Telekom launch would feature a PayPass-enabled prepaid application issued by ClickandBuy, the wholly owned UK-based payments subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. ClickandBuy has an e-money license that covers the European Union. It mainly handles online payments.
