To use the service, Turkcell customers in the Sanliurfa region first link their Urfakart to their Turkcell wallet. They can then top up their account balance using a debit card, credit card or Turkcell mobile payment as well as check their balance from their mobile phone.

Customers with an NFC phone can then use their handset to replace their physical Urfakart when travelling on public transportation. Customers with standard mobiles will continue to use their existing Urfakart card.

"Turkcell Wallet, which we introduced in October of 2012 as the world's most advanced mobile wallet solution, is currently on the mobile phones of 1.2 million people," says Sureyya Ciliv, Turkcell's CEO. "The Turkcell Wallet public transportation system is a first in Turkey and we hope that the 207 public transportation vehicles in Sanliurfa will set an example for other provinces to follow in the near future."
