Visa is to launch NFC payments services based on host card emulation with “several leading financial institutions around the world” in the coming months, with BBVA and Cuscal already live. Others coming soon include Banco do Brasil, PNC and US Bank.
“To use these new mobile payment services, consumers simply download their financial institution’s mobile payment app from the Google Play store,” the payment network says. “Following a one-time enrollment process, customers of participating financial institutions who download and install the application will be able to pay in-store with their Visa accounts by waving their Android mobile phone in front of a contactless reader.”
“This is for bank-branded mobile payment apps,” Brad Greene, VP of mobile payments at Visa Inc, explained to NFC World, pointing out that the initiative “will enable the financial institutions to develop their own-branded app, develop their own user experiences.
“Often they will embed this into their mobile banking apps,” he added, though “others may have a strategy of developing and offering a separate app from their mobile banking app.”
