Singapore-based Watchdata Technologies has unveiled Sharkey, a wearable device that supports NFC payments and comes in two form factors — a smartwatch or a wristband.
Sharkey connects with a wearer’s Android or iOS phone via Bluetooth and can then be used “for contactless payment, including public transport (both bus and subway), supermarket shopping, and micropayments such as China UnionPay.”
“You can top up online easily and check your transaction history and balance anytime,” Watchdata says. “In addition, Sharkey has call, message and task reminder functions and, with its built-in G-sensor, it can function as a pedometer to keep track on your steps.”
“Sharkey is a fashionable wearable device supporting secure payment and sport management, specifically designed by Watchdata for those who communicate everyday and love exercising,” says Watchdata’s Jack Pan. “We hope with Sharkey’s secure payment function we can offer an even greener and easier lifestyle for everyone.”
The company is using an Infineon secure element designed for wearable devices in the products. The company’s Boosted NFC Secure Element line is adapted to work with an ultra-small NFC antenna and has an 80% smaller PCB footprint than conventional solutions, Infineon says.
