Joining Chicago’s Drive to Equip a Tech-Ready Workforce

By Parisa Zagat, Policy Programs Manager, Facebook

Just two weeks ago we announced our pledge to train 1 million people and small businesses in digital skills by 2020. We want to help small businesses and people acquire more digital skills, so they can grow their companies and find new jobs. We know we can’t do this without the support of community members, which includes local colleges and training partners.

Our team is in Chicago today and we’re happy to announce two new collaborations. We’re teaming up with the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership and the City Colleges of Chicago to support the work they’re doing to help both students and people searching for new career opportunities succeed in today’s innovation-driven workplace.

Here’s a bit more about the opportunities:

With Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership we’ll fund 50 scholarships for students to participate in coding bootcamps offered through the Chicago Codes initiative to learn web and mobile development. With City Colleges we’ll work together to expand its digital marketing curriculum and training with new resources to help City Colleges’ graduates offer immediate value to businesses in their local communities and around the world.

We’re working with partners across the U.S. to create new resources, and prepare today’s workforce for the future. We’ll continue to share what we learn along the way.
