Spectators won’t have to miss a single stroke at the PGA TOUR’s first FedExCup Playoff event with faster and easier ways to pay
Purchase, NY, August 26, 2015—Golf fans using the latest in payment technology from MasterCard can get their food and drinks faster whether they are on the course, in the clubhouse or visiting the MasterCard Club on the ninth fairway during The Barclays in Edison, NJ. Concession point of sale terminals throughout Plainfield Country Club will be enabled to accept contactless payments and Qkr! with MasterPass, giving spectators a chance to use some of the newest payment technologies. In addition, any time a fan chooses to use their MasterCard with one of these payment options, they will get a 10 percent discount on their purchase.
Qkr! with MasterPass will allow fans to order and pay for concessions at the event directly from their Android or iOS device. The app features MasterPass, a digital wallet from MasterCard that stores payment information in one convenient and secure place. MasterPass enables consumers to pay for the things they want with the security they demand, online or in app, using any device. Now accepted in 24 countries, the platform securely stores payment and shipping information, which is readily accessible when a consumer checks out using the “Buy with MasterPass” button and logs into their account.
“At a tournament, no one wants to miss seeing their favorite golfer because they were waiting in line to buy a drink or a snack,” said Matt Barr, group head, North America Emerging Payments, MasterCard. “That’s why we are taking what we’ve done with our bank, retail and technology partners and bringing it to The Barclays. We’re enhancing the fan experience by letting fans tap or click to pay—more quickly and more securely—so they can get back to enjoying the action on the course.”
The Barclays, the first of the four FedExCup Playoff tournaments, continues efforts made this year to implement new payment technologies that enhance the fan experience at golf tournaments across the United States. MasterCard and the PGA TOUR partnered to debut contactless payment acceptance at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in January, allowing spectators to use mobile payments platforms for the first time at a TOUR event. In March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, merchandise and concession terminals were also contactless enabled so golf fans could make payments using a variety of NFC-enabled devices and services. In 2016, fans will continue to see contactless acceptance as well as Qkr! with MasterPass at a number of events across the PGA TOUR calendar.
“Technology plays such a critical role in enhancing the spectator experience at our golf tournaments, and our long-standing relationship with MasterCard has helped ensure that we are delivering the latest in payment technology,” said Brian Oliver, PGA TOUR Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships. “MasterCard continues to make it safer and more convenient to make purchases at the course. We’re excited this technology will be available at The Barclays.”
New payment technology is just the beginning of how MasterCard is delivering an enhanced experience to golf spectators. At The Barclays—which begins Thursday, August 27—MasterCard cardholders will enjoy exclusive access, experiences and benefits through the company’s Priceless Golf, Priceless Cities and Priceless Surprises programs.
