I am proud to relay today another milestone in Luxembourg's long-standing history as an international leader in financial innovation. As a first in Europe, Luxembourg Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna has granted a License as a fully regulated Payment Institution to bitcoin exchange Bitstamp.

This announcement marks a milestone for virtual currencies and will impact digital finance in Europe. Through its close relations with San Francisco-based Pantera capital, Bitstamp's lead investor, LTIO-San Francisco is proud to have played a facilitator role in Bitstamp's establishment and licensing process in Luxembourg.

Bitstamp’s decision to establish in Luxembourg is a testimony to the country’s established history of fostering innovation.
