UL is proud to announce the release of the UL Brand Test Tool for Quick Chip, a version of the UL Brand Test Tool specifically for testing a terminal for American Express Quick Chip, Discover Quick Chip, MasterCard M/Chip Fast and Visa Quick Chip.

Earlier this year all major payment brands introduced their versions of Quick Chip technology for the US market, a solution to reduce the time a card must remain in a point-of-sale terminal during a contact chip transaction. This makes the checkout process faster and more convenient for both merchants and cardholders. These technologies are known as American Express Quick Chip, Discover Quick Chip, MasterCard M/Chip Fast and Visa Quick Chip. All these solutions are designed for environments where fast transaction times, in addition to security, are important. Merchants and cardholders can expect speeds closer to the familiar magnetic stripe transactions, but with the added security of EMV.

New terminals that implement Quick Chip and/or M/Chip Fast are required to follow a streamlined certification process, which involves significantly less testing, as certain transaction steps do not have to be performed. In response to this, UL developed the UL Brand Test Tool for Quick Chip, a version of the UL Brand Test Tool with test cases for Quick Chip and M/Chip Fast only. The UL Brand Test Tool is officially qualified for American Express Quick Chip, Discover Quick Chip, MasterCard M/Chip Fast and Visa Quick Chip.

Apart from the UL Brand Test Tool for Quick Chip, the existing UL Brand Test Tool has also been updated to support testing for Quick Chip and M/Chip Fast. For existing customers with an active Service Contract, the new version of the UL Brand Test Tool supporting test cases for Quick Chip and M/Chip Fast is available through our service site free of charge.
