Keynote Speaker:
Russell Goldsmith, Chairman and CEO at City National Bank
As chairman and chief executive officer of City National Bank, Russell Goldsmith leads America’s 24th largest commercial bank with $27.4 billion in total assets. Additionally, he serves as president and chief executive officer of its publicly held parent company, City National Corporation, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (CYN) and headquartered in Los Angeles, California. He has been a director of both the bank and its parent company since 1978.
Since Mr. Goldsmith became CEO in October 1995, City National’s assets have increased almost 800 percent. Today, it has 78 banking offices in Southern California, the San Francisco Bay Area, Nevada, New York City, Nashville and Atlanta. Additionally, the company and its investment affiliates manage or administer $59 billion in client investment assets, including nearly $40 billion under direct management.
From 2008 through 2011, Mr. Goldsmith was a member of the Federal Reserve Board’s 12-member Federal Advisory Council, representing the Twelfth Federal Reserve District, and its vice president for two years.
He chairs the Mid-Size Bank Coalition of America, which is composed of 44 mid-sized banks in 43 states, the District of Columbia and three U.S. territories. Mr. Goldsmith also chairs the Los Angeles Coalition for the Economy & Jobs, an independent organization of leading economic stakeholders representing business, labor, higher education and the nonprofit sectors. He previously served as chairman of the Los Angeles Economy & Jobs Committee, which was formed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
In 2013, Mr. Goldsmith was named “Business Person of the Year” by the Los Angeles Business Journal, which cited not only his leadership of City National Bank but also his role as an advocate for economic growth and job creation.
Mr. Goldsmith serves on the board of trustees of the Harvard-Westlake School and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
From 1986 until its sale in 1994, Mr. Goldsmith was chairman of the board and chief executive officer of publicly held Republic Pictures Corporation, a leading global independent entertainment production and distribution company. He also was vice chairman of the San Diego Padres Baseball Club from 1990 to 1994. He previously served as chief operating officer and a director of Lorimar, Inc., a public entertainment company, from 1983 through 1985.
Mr. Goldsmith began his professional career as an attorney, practicing at Irell & Manella, and later co-founded his own law firm, Sanders, Barnet & Goldsmith.
He is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

Joaquín Ayuso de Paul, Founder & CEO at Kuapay
Joaquín Ayuso de Paul is the CEO and founder of Kuapay, a global mobile payment solution that revolutionizes the payment experience between the merchant and consumer. Kuapay has pioneered the highest level of security in mobile payments with an all-in-one digital wallet that allows users to pay, enjoy loyalty programs and manage coupons.
Prior to Kuapay, Joaquin was the co-founder of Spain’s most prominent and largest social network, Tuenti.com. The challenge was to beat the already installed social networks MySpace, Hi5, and Facebook. The goal was to create a different social place with stronger privacy, greater reliability, and faster service. By the end of 2010, Tuenti.com was acquired by Telefonica when reached 9.2 million users.
Joaquín obtained his degree in Computer Science from The Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, Spain.
Bill Barhydt, CEO at Boom Financial (ex-M-Via)
William (Bill) Barhydt (born in New York City) is a serial entrepreneur and the Co-Founder and CEO of Boom Financial (formerly m-Via,) a mobile banking company focused on using mobile technology to fully bank the senders and recipients of domestic and cross border money transfers.
Mr. Barhydt served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of KnowNow, Inc. Prior to joining KnowNow Inc., he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Meteor Communications, a communications service provider of infrastructure for group collaboration solutions. Mr. Barhydt held various management positions at Netscape Communications in business development and professional services and served as its Technical Director.
Barhydt attended The Stevens Institute of Technology (BS, Computer Science, 1990) and has done graduate work (non-degree) at Stanford (Mathematics) and NYU (Finance).
After working for the CIA, NASA and Goldman Sachs, Barhydt decided to join Netscape working on telecom and Internet banking infrastructure deployments. After the AOL acquisition of Netscape Barhydt founded WebSentric, the first international web conferencing service. The technology for WebSentric exists today in SAP’s online portal service. Barhydt was CEO of KnowNow, part of the founding management team of Plaxo (now Comcast) and has been a Director or adviser to numerous start-ups including Meeting Maker, Ignite Racing, Particle Code, Sennari, Plaxo, Kopo Kopo and others.
Barhydt co-founded m-Via in 2008.
As a recognized expert in Internet and Mobile technologies Barhydt has presented at The World Economic Forum, The US State Department, The Mobile World Congress, TED, and many Internet and mobile technology conferences.
Joe Lynam, CEO at PayOne
Joe is a serial entrepreneur & digital payment pioneer holding a multitude of mobile payment patents. Under his leadership, PayOne billed of $5B in retail charges and more than doubled its revenues in 4 consecutive years.
Previously, Joe founded VRS Billing Systems, a micro-transaction company acquired by AT&T. A member of the Board of Directors venture backed companies including XTRM Sports network and key mobile industry associations including the MEF Americas.
Joe is an Inc 500 alumni and a noted and oft-requested speaker and commentator at industry events and for print and broadcast media including Business Week, Forbes, AdWeek, CBS MarketWatch, Investors Business Daily, and CNN. He received a Bachelor of Science and Commerce degree in Finance from Santa Clara University.
Mick Mullagh, ex-CEO at Vivotech
Mick Mullagh is Principal of an independent Mobile and Payment Advisory service (www.mnpadvisor.com) helping senior teams navigate through the Mobile, Payment and Mobile Commerce opportunity landscape. He is a proven leader, innovator and expert in the mobile, payments and mobile commerce fields. He is a five time President/CEO of mobile and payments companies. Between 1988 and 1997 he was President and COO of Rogers and BC Tel Mobility during their hyper growth stages. From 1997 to 2012 he was CEO of three growth stage private companies in Silicon Valley, including Telephia, acquired by Nielsen for $450m, and ViVOtech the leading early enabler of the Mobile Payments and Commerce market.
ViVOtech was a pioneering supplier of in-store NFC based payment, loyalty, marketing, and merchandising solutions, providing key building blocks of the ecosystem including smart touch based applications, wallet and TSM software, and POS readers and systems. Nate Wehunt, Sr. Vice President at City National Bank
With more than a 14 years of experience in the financial services industry with a deep focus on digital channels and payments, Wehunt is Senior Vice President and head of the digital channels at City National Bank in Los Angeles, California.
Before joining City National, Wehunt was with BMO Harris Bank N.A. in Chicago. There he was Director and Vice President of eCommerce. Before he joined Harris Bank in 2008, Wehunt spent nine years with Washington Mutual in Seattle, where he was First Vice President of the Online Strategy and Management group.
