Qashier unveils fraud soundbox for QR payments

Fintech startup Qashier today unveiled its QashierPay Soundbox in Malaysia, a revolutionary QR payment terminal designed to elevate the safety and security of digital payments and support businesses as they digitise.

According to a consumer fraud survey conducted by FICO, real-time payment scams are on the rise and payment fraud is now the top financial crime concern for 32% of Malaysians. As more businesses transition to digital payment solutions, there is a need to implement measures that counter real-time payment scams.

Against this backdrop, Qashier has launched the QashierPay Soundbox in Malaysia. The QashierPay Soundbox, equipped with real-time auditory alert capabilities, ensures merchants receive an immediate notification upon the successful and accurate receipt of payment. The innovative plug-and-play terminal is poised to be the easiest way for businesses to accept QR payments at an affordable price - a game-changer for merchants handling quick and high-flow transactions, such as hawkers and mini-marts.

Since piloting the Soundbox in May this year, Qashier has onboarded over 1,500 merchants mostly from the F&B and retail sector, and has processed close to 2 million in transaction volume within two months.

With the new QashierPay Soundbox, both merchants and consumers can look forward to a better payment experience and these key benefits:

• Seamless adoption: Plug-and-play solution without the hassle of overhauling their current payment system or changing the way the business operates.

• Wide acceptance with a single device: Accepts the majority of e-wallet QR payments and DuitNow-enabled apps: TNG e-wallet, Shopee Pay, BigPay, and more.

• Easy payment experience: DuitNow QR code for a smoother checkout experience for customers.

• View transaction history in real-time: The QashierPay Soundbox is the only Soundbox on the market that displays up to five of the most recent transactions on the device itself. Merchants can also access full sales reports on their QashierHQ merchant portal.

• Trilingual: Merchants can easily toggle between English, Malay, and Mandarin audio.

• Next-day payout (T+1): Merchants receive payouts from transactions the next business day, ensuring stronger cash flow for businesses.

• Highly portable: Designed for SMEs, the device is Wi-Fi and SIM-enabled, allowing merchants the flexibility and portability of off-site usage such as pop-up events or bazaars.

• Compact design: QashierPay Soundbox fits seamlessly on any checkout counter with its sleek and compact design.

“It was natural for us to launch in Malaysia, following the strong reception of the QashierPay Soundbox launch in Singapore. As Malaysia progresses towards a cashless and digital-first society, we are committed to doubling down on our efforts to champion and support SMEs on this journey.” said Travis Kok, Senior Vice President, SEA of Qashier. “With the rise of fraudulent activities in the payment space, the QashierPay Soundbox can help reduce the risk of unnoticed fraudulent activity, and also help SMEs overcome the cost and complexity so often associated with the adoption of digital payments, so that they can focus on growing their business,” he added.

The first 1000 businesses to register between 24 July 2024 and 31 August 2024 can order QashierPay Soundbox at a promotional price of RM199. Every QashierPay Soundbox comes ready with a SIM card and merchants can enjoy 12 months of data plan for free. In addition, merchants will also be given access to their very own online merchant portal via QashierHQ to monitor transactions.

These incentives are part of Qashier’s SME Support Package (QSP) - an ongoing effort to drive digital payment solution adoption amongst small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Qashier launched QashierPay, its payment solution in 2022 and has since processed over US$1 billion transactions. Today, Qashier has over 7,000 merchants across four key markets - Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand.

QashierPay Soundbox is available in Singapore and Malaysia, and will be rolled out gradually across different markets, including the Philippines and Thailand.
