Dope.security this week emerged from stealth mode with a $4 million investment from Boldstart Ventures and a new approach to secure web gateways.

Placed between the user and the internet, secure web gateways (SWG) deliver network protection by inspecting all web requests and blocking malicious applications and websites.

Dope.security delivers the protection directly on the endpoint, with a direct-to-internet (fly-direct) approach that eliminates the legacy stopover datacenter architecture.

The startup claims that its direct-to-cloud proxy solution can protect enterprises against web-based threats while significantly improving performance and eliminating outages.

The company’s cloud-managed dope.swg solution runs on the endpoint, synchronizes with Office 365 and Google to import zero-trust policies, enforces endpoint-driven security controls and custom user-based policies, and provides visibility into data and users via a cloud-native console.

“dope.security’s fly-direct approach is exactly what the SWG market needs. Legacy solutions are too complex and slow down every company that uses the Internet. By eliminating the stopover with a product-led growth (PLG) motion, dope.security is a true game changer,” Boldstart Ventures general partner Ed Sim said.
