Google’s September 2022 security update for Pixel devices addresses two critical vulnerabilities. A total of 46 other security flaws were resolved in the Android platform this month.
The Pixel components impacted by the two critical bugs are Trusty and kernel. Tracked as CVE-2022-20231 and CVE-2022-20364, both issues could lead to escalation of privileges, Google explains.
Three medium-severity vulnerabilities addressed with the latest Pixel security updates impact kernel and Qualcomm components.
Fixes for all these issues are being delivered to Pixel devices as part of a security patch level of 2022-09-05. The update also includes patches for the 46 bugs that Google addressed in Android this month.
Android devices with a 2022-09-01 security patch level contain fixes that resolve 11 new vulnerabilities across the Android runtime, Framework, and System components. Most of these issues could lead to escalation of privileges.
In its advisory, Google also describes three vulnerabilities patched with the latest Google Play system updates, and which impact components such as permission controller, MediaProvider, and WiFi.
Devices running a 2022-09-05 security patch level contain fixes for an additional 38 vulnerabilities in Kernel, Kernel components, and third-party components from Imagination Technologies, MediaTek, Unisoc, and Qualcomm.
The flaws resolved with Android’s September 2022 updates are rated ‘high’ severity, with the exception of a critical-severity bug in Qualcomm closed-source components and a medium-severity issue in the Framework component.
Google makes no mention of any of these vulnerabilities being exploited in malicious attacks.
