The Growth Product Manager will drive innovative and scalable strategies for improving customer engagement and lifetime value of PayPal’s 20M+ small businesses (SMBs) worldwide. You will conceive and test ideas with the goal of having the “winners” help define our product roadmap. From early lifecycle businesses to sellers looking to grow, you’ll identify and determine how PayPal will achieve our aggressive growth plans in 2019 and beyond. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical, analytical, and marketing background – with a hunger to grow and deepen our relationship with SMBs worldwide. This role will provide high visibility and high impact on the key decisions we make in 2019. You'll interact with a wide range of the PayPal’s customers and internal business leaders to test new recommendations, understand our product capabilities and data structure, build new targeted offerings for small businesses. This may include inspiring customers to find new products, helping convert in-market customers, or optimizing key strategic or business objectives.
Charting the course for growth. We expect the Growth Product Manager to be highly technical and data-oriented, i.e. able to jam with data science and engineering colleagues to make decisions and set a vision that meets our product and business
- Create programs aimed at increasing engagement and cross-selling to PayPal’s global SMB segment
- Understand PayPal’s merchant segmentation methodology and inform our segmentation strategy
- Surface opportunities to improve key metrics throughout the funnel to drive better customer lifetime value (LTV)
- Roll up your sleeves and work with large quantities of data by using SQL, SAS/R or other data and statistical tools as well as reporting tools such as Tableau. Experience building financial models and scenario planning is a plus
- Perform analytical deep dives including cohort and segmentation analyses, financial projections, ad-hoc requests
- Use data to develop strong hypotheses, independently solve problems and provide actionable insights;
- Discover and define new opportunities to grow and optimize for the SMB segment. Develop strategies to differentiate for select verticals, markets and/or platforms
- Conduct analysis of the opportunities for target market segments, segment sizing and ideal customer targets, and design forward-thinking positioning approaches for each segment
- Identify and analyze feasibility of the opportunities including due diligence of PayPal’s internal capabilities and strategic partnerships
Be deeply in tune with the needs of SMBs. Develop a deep understanding of the SMB segment at each stage of the customer journey: acquisition, activation, and retention
- Establish strong quantitative and qualitative understanding of SMB needs for selling based on vertical, market and/or channel
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of payments market, technology trends and competitive landscape
- Analyze market trends, internal data, customer feedback, competition, current solutions, and strategic priorities to help define new offerings, create go-to-market strategies and plans and drive go-to-market execution
Transforming opportunities into reality. Maniacally measure performance and own the KPIs for your recommendations and rolling out “winners” at a global scale
- Define solution value propositions for targeted customers and defining objectives and key results (OKRs) including revenue forecasts, adoption goals, packaging, pricing and partner strategies
- Design and execute in-market tests, perform test/control analysis and formulate recommendations
- Rapidly iterate on tests while sharing key insights and informing future product iteration
- Manage execution of A/B tests across to increase engagement and grow consumption of services, including innovative pricing/packaging approaches, special offers, promotions, and customer adoption programs
- Execute and track demand creation experiments across all customer-facing channels (incl. web, mobile, email)
- Dig deep into test performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization

- Drive cross-functional team to set qualitative objectives and quantitative goals
- Work with cross-functional partners in data science, engineering, finance, sales and the Commercial business
- Clearly communicate plans, insights, data and results to executives, other product teams, cross-functional teams such as marketing, operations, finance
- Collaborate with marketing to support acquisition and growth methodologies
- Work with marketing to monitor the results of product launches, evangelism activities and marketing campaigns to reach target audiences effectively
- Establish customer and sales feedback loops to synthesize feedback and prioritize feature requests and driving follow-up actions and communications
- Support marketing in repurposing content into awareness/website/promotional materials and monitor the results of product launches, evangelism activities and marketing campaigns to reach target audiences effectively
Additional qualifications considered
- 8+ years in a growth driven role with a track record of defining and delivering against business outcomes
- Computer science or statistical analysis undergraduate degree
- Experience building products from zero to first release
- Experience applying machine learning/statistical inference technologies to a variety of complex problems
- Understanding of big-data processing pipelines (over Hadoop or similar technologies), distributed data stores, and distributed file systems
- SQL proficiency
- Prior experience working in or with SMBs, fintech and/or marketing technologies
- Prior experience working on global projects
