The Global Lending & Cobrand (GLC) Finance team provides strategic and financial analysis to help develop the right products, lending capabilities, and customer treatments that grow our share of spend and lend in the marketplace. We achieve this goal through a broad set of activities, such as deep financial analysis of our existing cardmember base; analysis of the industry and specific competitors; and detailed financial sizing of new card products, product refreshes, lending capabilities, acquisition offers, or customer treatments. We rely on strong cross-functional collaboration with the product, marketing, pricing, risk, and finance teams for the Global Consumer Services business. This is a high visibility role with a focus on some of the most important initiatives in one of the largest and fastest growing segments of American Express.
Job Description:
The candidate will provide strategic and financial thought leadership for the GCL business, partnering closely with the EVP, Global Lending & Cobrand, and key direct reports.
Responsibilities:
Manage a high-performing team of 11 in New York, NY
Own the end-to-end financial analysis of initiatives such as product launches / refreshes, new lending capabilities, acquisition strategy, organic growth initiatives, and profitability analyses of the portfolio
Proactively work with the business to identify the critical business questions, frame the correct analyses to make decisions, and rapidly drive those analyses to closure
Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners in Product, Marketing, Risk, Pricing, Finance and other functions
Develop actionable recommendations on the business and strategic questions at hand; effectively communicate complex ideas; and actively seek to drive the strategy of the business
Develop and maintain deep understanding of the competitive environment, and our competitive positioning
Train, supervise and coach the team on technical skills, lending economics, and risk management
Qualifications
Strong content expert in lending, with an excellent understanding of credit risk, provision, pricing, and customer behavior on lending products
Ability to articulate complex ideas with brevity, simplicity and impact
Relationship leadership and collaboration skills across a wide network of matrixed relationships
Effective and inspiring team leadership skills, with proven ability to hire and train top talent and inspire through coaching and recognition
Natural strategic mindset or “business intuition” – ability to step back from the numbers and consider the analysis from multiple points of view
Ability to handle high pressure environment with aggressive deadlines while balancing multiple priorities and customers
Quantitatively oriented and very numerate – comfortable with thinking through the “quick math”
High energy, proactive instinct
Ability to balance attention to detail and accuracy with tight deadlines
7-10 years’ work experience
Experience with IDN, SQL and/or SAS
MBA or related graduate degree preferred
